Galway Bay fm newsroom – Children from the Gaza strip are set to arrive in Kinvara next week as part of a ten day football holiday to Ireland.
The footballers, aged between 10 and 14 years of age, will stay and play in Kinvara, Nenagh, Limerick and Wexford as part of the ‘Gaza Kids to Ireland’ programme.
Their home club of Al-Helal has had its clubhouse and facilities in the north of the Gaza strip repeatedly damaged by bombing in recent years.
The group of 14 children will visit Kinvara on Thursday, where they’ll play football matches with local teams and take part in a series of activities, including a circus workshop.
The programme is organised by Gaza Action Ireland and was launched by former Ireland manager Brian Kerr in 2014.
Co-ordinator Zoë Lawlor says the idea is to provide a badly-needed break from stress and conflict.
