The Book Day - Christmas Special

On Wednesday 9th December Galway Bay Fm turned the focus on all things books. We invited some special guests on air to talk about their favourite books. We hope our Book Day will encourage you our listeners to think about giving a book as a gift this year and to read a little over the holidays. We hope to inspire our listeners to reconnect with the wonderful world of books and the magic inside them.

On Mollie in the Morning, Ollie and Mollie invited comedian Aidan Tierney to join them and chat about his favourite books through the eyes of some of his character performances.

On Galway Talks Sally Ann Barret was sitting in for Keith Finnegan and brought us a feast of listening. Comedian Bernard O' Shea joins Sally Ann Barrett to give his thoughts on the books that have influenced his life,  - an amazing array - from Aesops Fables to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time  to the weighty James Joyce's Ulysess and more…………

"Oh it's delightful to have ambitions" - according to former minister Mary O'Rourke that was the opening line that starting her on a life long habit of reading.  Mary chats about starting her reading adventure with Ann of Green Gable and still looking forward to the thrill of a new book as she anticipates her new Christmas choice of Barrack Obama's autobiography.

"A hoover for Books" - David Nevin, Galway Bay FM News Journalist chats with Sally Ann Barrett  about the books in his life.  The Skelton Crew was the book that bridged the world of children's books and the world of grown up books for him.  David talks about the skill of writer Stephen King,  his parents encouragement to read, library books and yes……that thrill of horror.

On The Live Wire Ronan was joined by Steve Wall of The Stunning and talks about the books that inspire him through his song writing career, the books he read on the road, and his childhood fascination with the dictionary . Steve also chats about his own collaboration on newly published The Paradise in the Picture House Songbook

On The A List, Alan was joined by Sarah from Kenny's Bookshop to run through their top ten books to give as Christmas Gifts this year and there is definitely something there for everyone in the family.
