Safer Internet Day 2025: Empowering Young People in the Digital World
Safer Internet Day 2025 marks the 22nd year of this global initiative, dedicated to promoting safer and more responsible use of online technology, particularly among children and young people. This year’s theme, Prepare / Protect / Thrive: Navigating Algorithms and Influencers, highlights the growing impact of online influences and the importance of equipping young users with the skills to navigate the digital world safely.
Addressing Online Challenges
Research shows that 26% of children in Ireland have encountered harmful content online. With increasing exposure to digital media, it is crucial to empower young people with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize both the benefits and risks of online engagement. Safer Internet Day 2025 will focus on supporting children and young people to critically engage with online content, develop digital media literacy, and foster safer online habits.
Nationwide Participation
To celebrate this important day, hundreds of young people across Ireland will take part in initiatives designed to promote online safety. Safer Internet Day presents an excellent opportunity for schools, parents, and communities to get involved in meaningful discussions about the digital world. Schools can access free resources, lesson plans, and activities via Webwise.ie/saferinternetday, where they can also register for free wristbands and other support materials.
The Core Objectives of Safer Internet Day
- Prepare: Equip children and young people with digital media literacy skills from an early age.
