Red wind warning for Galway to come into effect earlier than expected

Met Eireann has upgraded its red wind warning for Galway - saying it'll now come into effect at 9pm instead of the original time of 10pm.

Galway is now under a status Yellow warning - and that will be upgraded to status Orange from 8pm and then Red at 9pm.

The Red warning will remain in place until 2am, and after that it'll be an Orange warning until 10am.

And then separately, a yellow rainfall warning is also in effect for Galway until 10am tomorrow.

People are warned to stay at home and the following impacts are to be expected across the county.

• Fallen trees
• Damage to power lines
• Dangerous travelling conditions
• Structural damage
• Wave overtopping
