Galway businesses are expressing their concern in the face of a possible 15% increase in commercial rates.
The proposal to raise commercial rates is set to be voted on by the City Council next month (November 17th).
It comes after yesterday's meeting, during which a 15 percent rise in Local Property Tax was approved, but only after the Mayor, Peter Keane stepped in to make the final call after a 9 votes to 9 split.
Local businesses are calling for the increase in Commercial Rates proposal to be rejected, claiming they are already facing unprecedented financial pressures.
Aonghus O’Flaherty of Tigh Coilí says businesses can’t take anymore after property revaluations led to a significant rate increase last year.
