Galway City Council has issued a warning of wave overtopping at coastal areas due to high spring tides over the coming days.

It comes as Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for wind and coastal flooding for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The city council has already closed Toft Park as a precaution, and says closures will be in place at Salthill Carpark and Silverstrand for the weekend.

Meanwhile, Ballyloughane Beach Road will be for local access only, and all road users in these areas are advised to proceed with caution.
