Galway Bay fm newsroom - A major upgrade of the Martin Roundabout near Galway Clinic will get underway next week. (24/1)
The works will see the roundabout converted into a 4-arm signal-controlled junction.
The Martin Roundabout is located on the eastern outskirts of Galway City at the intersection of the R446 dual carriageway and Old Dublin Road.
The project will transform the existing roundabout to a 4-arm signal-controlled junction, with the addition of cycle lanes, bus priority measures, footpaths and associated landscaping.
Construction is set to get underway on Monday morning and it's expected works will take around 6 months to complete.
There will be significant traffic management measures in place during the scheme, which will be carried out in several phases.
Galway City Council says delays to traffic flow are anticipated, but disruption will be minimised as much as possible.
Fox Building and Engineering Ltd have been appointed to carry out the works - and detailed information on the project can be view at GalwayCity.ie.
Speaking to Galway Talks, Councillor Alan Cheevers said he's fully in support of the development, particularly the additional footpaths and cycle lanes.
However, he also hopes that lessons have been learned from the mistakes made with the Kirwan Junction.
