Works to begin on Claregalway traffic calming and flood relief project early next year

Ground works are set to get underway on a long-awaited traffic calming and flood relief project in Claregalway early next year.

The plan has been dogged by difficulties for years, particularly in acquiring land needed for important elements of the project.

At County Hall this week, council management acknowledged that it only has to “mist” in Claregalway and flooding will follow.

They said boots should be on the ground early next year, and it’s expected works on an attenuation pond to contain floodwaters will be completed in the summer.

Councillor David Collins says this is a vital project.
