Galway Bay fm newsroom - Works are getting underway this week to upgrade a problematic watermain in Ahascragh.
Irish Water says the works, which will replace almost a kilometre of old piping, will offer improved water quality and far less disruption.
Under the project, about 850 metres of problematic mains are being replaced on the L74151.
Irish Water says this old piping was prone to frequent bursts and leakage, causing regular water disruptions in the area.
It'll now be replaced with new high density polyethylene piping.
Works are set to get underway around now, and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
To facilitate the project, traffic management will be in place on the L74151 for the duration of the works.
Irish Water says the works may also involve some short-term water cut offs but affected customers will receive notice in advance.
