Galway Bay fm newsroom - Work is getting underway in full today (21/8) to upgrade the road near Kilmeen Cross in the Loughrea area.
Work was due to start last Thursday, however locals expressed concerns that there was no sign of any work being done up to last evening.
A spokesperson for the county council says surveys were carried out on site last Thursday but the contractors were delayed on the Gort motorway project on Friday.
Yesterday Lagan Asphalt Limited took the decision not to have any staff on site at Kilmeen in case Galway won the Senior All-Ireland Hurling final.

The county council says there is a full team on site today and traffic management is set up.
