Galway Bay fm newsroom - A contractor has been assigned to begin work on a long awaited new water supply to the Kilconnell area, with work due to commence onsite next week.
A boil water notice was issued in mid-June last year due to elevated levels of turbidity in the existing supply, which is a shallow source.
Several efforts have been made by Irish Water in recent months to source another groundwater supply without success.
A solution has now been agreed which involves a 400 metre piped connection which will be laid to connect the supply to Cappataggle group water scheme.
The utility says the work will commence in early August to install, test and commission and is expected to take eight weeks.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Demot Connolly says there have been many false dawns in finding a solution to the issue.
