Work to commence on new cardiothoracic ward at UHG in May

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Works are to get underway on a long awaited new cardiothoracic ward at UHG in the coming months.

The HSE says funding approval is being finalised for the project, with work earmarked to begin in May.

The matter has been raised at Regional Health Forum West level

The Forum previously heard of repeated delays to the project due to challenges in finding alternative locations for the existing services at UHG.

Cardiothoracic surgery involves the treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the thorax - which are typically conditions of the heart and lungs.
