Wildlife Trust says Galway gorse fires having devastating effect on protected habitats

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Irish Wildlife Trust says gorse fires are having a devastating effect on protected habitats across Galway.

The organisation has issued a statement as Galway's fire service personnel recover following a busy weekend.

The Fire Service is warning landowners to stop burning scrub, as gorse fires got out of control over the weekend across the county.

Crews tackled massive blazes in Loughrea, Clifden, Costello Connemara, Tuam, Gort and Ballynahown.

IWT Campaigns Officer, Pádraic Fogarty, says gorse fires are devastating for the natural environment.
