Galway Bay fm newsroom - The rate of unemployment in the Western region of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon has dropped by 49 per cent, now standing at 7.9 percent.
Nationally, unemployment has dropped to its lowest levels since 2008.
The data collated by the CSO examines the last quarter of 2016, comparing it to the same period in 2011.
According to the Irish Independent, the jobless rate in the South-East is the worst in the country at 9.4 per cent.
