Victims of Spanish Arch botched robbery hospitalised with knife wounds

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A man is in garda custody following an alleged attempted robbery at Spanish Arch in the city overnight.

A couple were walking at Spanish Arch just before 1a.m when they were confronted by a man carrying a knife who demanded money.

The man and woman received knife injuries during the altercation and were taken to University Hospital Galway where they remain for treatment.

The 29 year old man, who is known to gardaí and has a Galway address, was disarmed of his weapon and subdued by a passerby until gardaí arrived on the scene.

He was arrested and taken to Mill Street garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, where he is still being questioned this afternoon.
