From the Galway Bay FM Newsroom: There are calls for urgent action to address what's being described as 'a tsunami' of delayed and missed care' which has left Galway University Hospital with the highest number of patients on waiting lists in the country.
Galway West TD Mairéad Farrell says she has obtained new figures which reveal waiting lists at Galway University Hospital are now close to 60,000.
Urology and general surgery are particularly impacted as more than 4,000 people remain on lists for each service, with more than 45% of urology patients waiting over a year.
The data also reveals that there are 51 consultant posts not filled on a permanent basis, with 30 vacant in Galway University Hospital group.
Deputy Farrell says an urgent plan is needed to catch up on missed care since the pandemic took hold and the HSE faced a cyber-attack
