Galway Bay fm newsroom - Progress is being made on a long-awaited upgrade project on the N59 - with some works set to begin shortly.
That's according to Galway West Deputy Eamon O' Cuiv, who says tenders for the Bunakill to Maam Cross section are currently being assessed.
The route is currently divided into several sections, each facing a long-running and complex range of issues, including environmental concerns.
There are Oughterard to Bunakill, Bunakill to Maam Cross, and Maam Cross to Clifden.
The delays largely stem from the need to reach agreement with the National Parks and Wildlife Service on how exactly upgrade works will be carried out.
Fianna Fail Deputy O' Cuiv says progress is being made on all sections - and Bunakill to Maam Cross will get underway very soon.
