Unemployment continues its seasonal rise in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Unemployment figures in Galway are continuing to rise, according to the latest report from the Central Statistics Office.

The latest data shows that almost 600 extra people signed on the Live Register in Galway in the month of July.

There are now over 11 thousand people out of work in the city and county.

The biggest increase in unemployment last month was in the city, where an extra 227 people signed on.

There are now just over 5 and a half thousand people out of work in the city.

135 more people joined the Live Register in Tuam in July, bringing its jobless figure up to just over 17 hundred.

Ballinasloe also saw a jump in its unemployment figure last month, with more than 100 more people signing on.

There are now over 12 hundred people out of work in Ballinasloe.

Loughrea saw an increase of 70 on its jobless figure in July, meaning there are now over 12 hundred people without jobs in the area.

In Gort, more than 50 more people joined the Live Register in July, so there are now 773 people out of work in Gort.

The only area to buck the unemployment trend last month was Clifden, which saw 6 people come off the Live Register.

There are now just over 580 people out of work in Clifden.

Overall, there are just over 11 thousand people out of work in Galway, an increase of almost 600 since June.
