UHG second most overcrowded hospital nationwide today

Galway Bay fm newsroom - UHG is the second most overcrowded hospital nationwide today.

38 patients are waiting at the emergency department at the city acute hospital.

University Hospital Limerick is the most overcrowded with 50 patients while Cork University Hospital has 36 waiting.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show 333 admitted patients are waiting for beds nationwide.

Chief Operations Officer with the HSE Anne O'Connor told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks the increased activity at emergency departments is being experienced nationwide.

She said there are 134 available beds today when the figure should be between 400 and 600 for this time of year.
