UHG has issued a public advisory as the Emergency Department is under serious pressure.
Since Sunday, almost 800 patients have presented at the unit.
It's rarely quiet, but the Emergency Department at UHG has been creaking under consistent pressure since the weekend.
Over 200 patients presented on Sunday, almost 300 on Monday, and a further 272 yesterday.
Figures from the INMO show there are currently over sixty patients without a bed at the hospital.
Some elective procedures are being cancelled, and urgent time sensitive cases are being prioritised.
The public is being asked only to attend the ED in the case of genuine emergencies - and consider their GP or out of hours service otherwise.
Anyone who attends for routine or non urgent care will be facing extremely long waiting times.
The public are also advised that the Roscommon Injury Unit is available between 8am and 8pm.
