University Hospital Galway has issued a public advisory as the Emergency Department is extremely busy.
The hospital says there are long wait times in the ED, due to the high numbers attending the department.
265 people attended on Monday, 240 attended yesterday, and there are 44 patients on trolleys this morning.
The hospital is postponing some elective procedures, and urgent, time sensitive cases are being prioritised.
People are asked only to attend the ED for genuine emergencys, and first attend their GP or an out of hours service if possible.
