Galway Bay fm newsroom - UHG was one of the hospitals with the highest numbers of patients on trolleys last month.
An analysis by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has found 829 people were waiting at the city acute hospital in October.
University Hospital Limerick had the highest figure at 1,369, followed by University Hospital Letterkenny with 943, with University Hospital Galway third most overcrowded.
The monthly Trolleywatch figures show that numbers of patients on trolleys have almost doubled this October when compared to the same time period in 2020.
The figures also reveal there have been five times as many children on trolleys compared to October 2020.
19 hospitals have seen their trolley figures double compared to October 2020.
The group has warned this is cause for particular concern in St.Vincent’s University Hospital, University Hospital Tipperary, University Hospital Galway and Ennis Hospital which have all seen their trolley numbers increase ten-fold compared to last year.
INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha says the figures are an indication of what lies ahead for patients and staff in the health service if action is not taken.
