Galway Bay fm newsroom - University Hospital Galway has appealed to the public to expect long waiting times at the emergency department today as the facility experiences a surge in the number of presentations.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Saolta says there is ongoing pressure on bed availability in the hospital and it regrets that patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the ED to an acute bed.
The public is being encouraged to attend the emergency department only in the case of real emergencies.
Patients can also attend the injury unit at Roscommon Hospital which is open from 8am to 8pm to treat a range of injuries in both adults and children over five years of age.
Saolta has moved to stress it is committed to treating everyone who presents at the ED but must do so strictly in order of medical priority.
