UG research recommends national plan to address Traveller mental health needs

University of Galway research is recommending the implementation of a national plan to help address the mental health needs of Travellers.

The study was carried out by The HSE network of Mental Health Service Coordinators for Travellers and the university's Health Promotion Research Centre.

Seventeen Traveller peer researchers were employed to collect data in 10 counties through group discussions and individual interviews.

The data highlights the importance of engaging with the Traveller community in creating supports that are culturally appropriate and accessible.
