Galway Bay fm newsroom - Údarás na Gaeltachta is set to investigate the possibility of developing Ros an Mhíl as a centre for marine renewable energy.
The board of Údarás has approved funding to prepare a development plan for 30 acres of land in its ownership.
The study will include a review of the marine renewable energy sector, the opportunities that arise and the requirements and advantages that Ros an Mhíl harbour an Gaeltacht companies have to meet future demands in the sector.
The organisation says renewable energy issues will be central to its new strategy for the period 2021-2025 and it will investigate issues in relation to energy conservation, carbon reductions and energy generation from renewable sources.
It's hoped tenders will be issued in the coming weeks so initial research and preparatory work can commence early in the new year.
