Galway Bay fm newsroom - Two key health projects are set to commence to construction in Tuam shortly.
Galway East TD Seán Canney says the HSE has issued the letter of intent to the successful contractors for the new community nursing unit and the refurbishment of the Old Grove building for conversion to a mental health day facility and a disability unit.
The community nursing unit is a replacement for the Arus Mhuire facility which has been deemed to be no longer fit for purpose.
It represents an investment of €17.5 million and will provide a 50 bed nursing home including facilities for high dependency.
The Old Grove building is to be converted into a mental health day facility and an early intervention disability services facility at a cost of approximately €13 million.
Deputy Canney says it's a significant milestone to see both projects now reaching the final stages with construction set to commence on site in the coming months.
