Tuam Councillor says infant remains should not be exhumed

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Tuam area Councillor says any human remains at the former site of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home should not be exhumed.

Councillor Peter Roche believes the grounds at the Athenry Road should be consecrated and the remains should be left to 'rest in peace'.

He argues that the early developmental nature of many of the remains would make it impossible to ensure that everyone is accounted for in the event of re-interment.

He's suggesting that the focus be on dedicating the plot to the memory of the children who are buried there and survivors of the home.

Councillor Roche admits it may not be a popular opinion, but he believes it is the right way forward.
