Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway West TD is upset at the suggestion that any human remains at the former site of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home should not be exhumed.
Deputy Catherine Connolly has described the opinion offered by Councillor Peter Roche as the worst kind of insult to those who are buried at the site.
It's after the Tuam area Councillor suggested the grounds at the Athenry Road should be consecrated and the remains left to 'rest in peace'.
He argues that the early developmental nature of many of the remains would make it impossible to ensure that everyone is accounted for in the event of re-interment.
Deputy Connolly says there are a number of steps that must be taken - but leaving any remains where they are buried is not one of them.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Galway County Council has reiterated it's position that no decision has been made about the future of the site.
It adds that it will approach the issue with a clear understanding that there are varying views among those with a personal connection to the Bon Secours home.
