Galway Bay fm newsroom - Tributes are pouring in following the death of well known Loughrea area councillor Michael 'Stroke' Fahy.
The Caherduff native and farmer was first elected to the County Council in 1979 for Fianna Fail and had in recent months rejoined the party ahead of upcoming local elections.
He was an immensely popular figure throughout his political career and was handily returned for Fianna Fail in 1985, 1991, 1999 and 2004.
He was later elected as an independent in 2009 and 2014 - and had rejoined Fianna Fail in December to contest upcoming local elections.
Councillor Fahy passed away at Galway Clinic last evening following a short illness - having served his constituents for four decades.
Former Galway East TD Noel Tracey told Galway Talks he was loved by his constituents - and behind the facade was a caring and compassionate man.
Galway West Deputy Eamon O' Cuiv says Councillor Fahy was an example of how best to represent your constituents.
