Galway Bay fm newsroom - Tens of thousands of public transport passengers across the country including Galway have been left stranded this morning as the Bus Éireann strike has spread to Irish Rail.
Pickets by workers from all CIE firms are now taking place at depots around the country including Ceannt station in the city.
Staff are demonstrating solidarity with their Bus Éireann colleagues whose all-out strike over cuts has entered its eighth day.
While the 5.30am and 6.30am services from Galway to Dublin did operate, all other services between Galway and Heuston and Galway and Limerick are cancelled.
Dublin Bus is also affected.
Irish Rail's Barry Kenny says they weren't expecting today's disruption.
Dermot O'Leary from the NBRU says today's pickets took union bosses by surprise too.
