Galway Bay fm newsroom - The long awaited traffic calming scheme for Claregalway is set to go out to tender in the coming weeks.

The project was raised at a meeting of Athenry/Oranmore municipal district this week where officials advised work on the scheme would begin late next year.

A key part of the principal upgrade will be focused on surface water drainage and the road drainage system, with flooding problems continuing in the centre of Claregalway village.

The plan retains the left-turning lane in the village and the lights at the head of the Montiagh road, which will be synchronised with the other lights in the village.

It will also involve the extension of the footpath from the church to the schools, to join up with the existing footpath and an extension of the yellow box at the entrance to the Lakeview Estate.
