Today marks 175 years since the first set of students began studying at University of Galway.
At 12 noon on Tuesday 30th October 1849, 68 students walked through the Archway into the Quadrangle for the first time.
Those students progressed on to studies in 21 subjects across the Arts, Medicine, Law, Civil Engineering and Agriculture.
To mark the anniversary, the University has launched a number of celebrations under the banner 'A Legacy of Learning: 1849-2024'.
Sarah Slevin has been taking a look back at the past 175 years.
