Three well-known derelict city buildings set for demolition

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Three well-known derelict buildings in the city are set for demolition.

A meeting of the city council heard the former Corrib Great Southern Hotel, the former Dawn Dairies building on the Dublin Road and the former Connacht Laundry building at Henry Street are to be demolished.

Chief Executive Brendan McGrath said he has received a proposal from the owners of the three buildings to carry out the demolition work over the coming months.

The Corrib Great Southern site has been the scene of a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour in recent years, including several fires.

Fianna Fáil councillor Alan Cheevers told Galway Talks the decision is long overdue and will protect the health and safety of residents in these areas as well as removing eyesores at various points in the city....
