Galway Bay fm newsroom - Tuam, Athenry and Loughrea have been selected for a home support pilot programme which gets underway next month.
They're three of nine areas, from four health districts nationwide, which have been chosen to form part of the pilot.
The Department of Health says the programme will start at the end of August and will deliver an additional 230 thousand hours of home support services over a six-month period, with the evaluation of the outputs to continue over a 12-month period.
The pilot aims to shape the regulation of home support services and provide insights into the range of services that users require and the viability of personal care-plans.
Minister of State for Disability and Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte says it will see thousands of additional hours delivered into homes across East Galway over the coming months.
