Galway Bay fm newsroom - Three Bank of Ireland branches in Galway will close their doors for the last time today.
The branches in Ballygar, Dunmore and Oughterard are among 88 nationwide being shut down.
The closures were announced last March as part of the banks downsizing plan and shift towards an online service.
The bank will continue to operate with 169 branches across the country, including 15 in Galway.
Bank of Ireland says the network will be complemented by a partnership with An Post, offering services to customers at more than 66 locations across Galway.
Customers affected by the closures have been written to in recent months, informing them of the changes and where their accounts will be transferred.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe says while it’s a commercial decision, he knows it’s a difficult day for many.
