Galway Bay fm newsroom - The tender process is underway for the renovation of Loughrea Town Hall.
The project will provide for a new theatre, arts space and enterprise centre and is supported through a €1.6 million grant from our government's Rural Regeneration Fund.
Galway County Council has published a tender notice this week seeking expressions of interest from construction companies to carry out internal and external renovation of the town hall building.
The works will include the demolition and reconstruction of an annex building over three floors, the renovation of the main theatre building over two floors, and final fit out of the whole building for cultural and enterprise uses.
Loughrea Town Hall was built in 1862 and was most recently used as a cinema which closed in the 1980's.
Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon says it is a welcome development of an iconic building at the heart of Loughrea town - to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour
