Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway West TD has criticised the HSE for the delay in restoring full orthopaedic services at Merlin Park.
The theatres at Merlin Park were shut down in 2017 due to a leaking roof – and while one theatre has since re-opened, patient lists continue to grow.
Fianna Fáil Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív says it's disgraceful that patients in Galway are still without a full orthopaedic service.
He says it appears that the earliest time a contractor will be in place is the first quarter of 2020 - more than two years after the theatres were shut.
Deputy Ó Cuív says procedures for addressing emergency situations such as this must be examined.
