Noel Grealish demands changes to inheritance tax for those without children

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Local TD Noel Grealish is demanding changes to inheritance tax rules for those without children.

Raising the matter with Tanaiste Leo Varadkar in the Dáil, he said the current system is little more than a "punishment" for people for not having children of their own.

At present, a child does not pay tax on the first €350 thousand - but beneficiaries who are not direct descendants are only entitled to €32,500 tax-free.

Deputy Grealish told Leo Varadkar the current system is simply wrong - and gave an example of a house in Galway City worth €350 thousand.
