Raising the matter with Tanaiste Leo Varadkar in the Dáil, he said the current system is little more than a "punishment" for people for not having children of their own.
At present, a child does not pay tax on the first €350 thousand - but beneficiaries who are not direct descendants are only entitled to €32,500 tax-free.

Deputy Grealish told Leo Varadkar the current system is simply wrong - and gave an example of a house in Galway City worth €350 thousand.
