Galway Bay fm newsroom - An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar will visit Galway today (29/7) to unveil a commemorative sculpture to mark 150 years of Galway Races.
A minute silence will also be held at the Parade Ring at Ballybrit at 6.15pm for Captain Luke Mullins who spearheaded the development of the Galway Races during the 70s and 80s.
The Taoiseach will unveil the art piece entitled 'Leading in the Winner' by John Behan at 6.30pm at the racecourse in Ballybrit.
Corporate hospitality has already sold out for the 7 days of the festival and ticket sales for the meeting are said to be 'strong'.
Today is Day 1 of the Galway Racing Festival, with the first race going to post at 5.20 this evening.
