Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Tánaiste is to chair a meeting of all of the development agencies specifically focused on job creation for the town of Ballinasloe.
Leo Varadkar has given the commitment to local Independent TD Denis Naughten.
It follows the announcement of 115 job losses in the East Galway town at key employer Aptar.
Deputy Naughten argues the scale of job losses is equivalent to 1,380 job losses in Galway city.
He told the Tánaiste Ballinasloe seems to be just one positive decision away from unlocking its full potential and that it now needs a focused strategy maximising the use of key infrastructure and the full potential of the St. Brigid’s Hospital campus.
The Roscommon/Galway TD argues the rural town also has the potential to become the recreational tourism crossroads of Ireland with the north-south Beara Breffni way walking route and the proposed Athlone-Galway greenway.
He also states that Ballinasloe has industrial land, water, wastewater, broadband, road, rail infrastructural capacity which is not available in towns like Athlone or cities like Galway as well as the fact that it is just 15 minutes from the new Technological University in Athlone.
