Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 600 jobseekers in Galway are taking part in the Government's 'Back to Work Enterprise Allowance' scheme.
The figure accounts for almost 9 percent of the Live Register in the city and county.
Under the scheme, participants receive State income supports for up to two years while also receiving advice, support and mentoring on setting up and running a new business.
Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne says those who take part are twice as likely to be in full employment after six months.

He says such initiatives are supporting a year on year fall in unemployment figures.
