Surgeries cancelled as UHG struggles with overcrowding

Galway Bay fm newsroom - UHG is struggling to deal with severe overcrowding again today, for the third day in a row.

Non-urgent outpatient procedures have been cancelled in a bid to free up capacity.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show the Newcastle campus has had up to 47 people on trolleys awaiting a bed for the past 2 days.

The HSE has issued a public appeal this morning, urging patients to avoid the ED if possible, and to visit their GP instead.
