Supermac'c challenge to McDonalds sole use of 'Mc' trademark succeeds

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway-owned company, Supermac's has been successful in securing a landmark judgement against fast food giant McDonalds.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office has ruled that McDonald's can now only use the prefix 'Mc' in relation to chicken nuggets and a single sandwich.

McDonalds had argued that it has the right to own the 'Mc' term claiming it's synonymous with the company.

However owner of Supermac's Pat McDonagh says the ruling by the EUIPO is a victory for small businesses across the world.
