Galway Bay fm newsroom - Fáilte Ireland has commissioned a study to examine the potential for further investment in the Beara Brefine Way walking trail which runs through East Galway.
The Beara Brefine Way is Ireland's longest national way-marked trail and runs from Cork to Cavan, passing through East Galway from Portumna to Ballygar.
It follows the legendary fourteen-day march taken by Dónal Cam O’Sullivan Beare and his one thousand supporters in 1603.
Galway East Deputy Anne Rabbitte says Fáilte Ireland will now conduct a study which will examine the existing trail in areas including wayfinding and signage and proximity to key villages and towns.
Fianna Fail Deputy Rabbitte says the study could greatly improve the reach of tourism in East Galway.
