Strong turnout at public meeting over lack of bus services in Annaghdown and Corrandulla

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There was a strong turnout last evening at a public meeting in Corrandulla over the lack of bus services in the Annaghdown and Corrandulla areas.

It was called in relation to the ongoing campaign to secure bus services - after the 456 Bus Eireann service was withdrawn in mid-2018, effectively bypassing both areas .

However, while the NTA has advised that priority will be given to reconnecting Corrandulla via Claregalway, there are no plans for a local link service for Annaghdown.

Councillor James Charity says the area is being treated 'appallingly' and services are not being provided despite previous commitments from the National Transport Authority.

Going forward, he says protests will take place in the coming weeks along the Bus Eireann 456 route to highlight the situation, and action may also be taken at Bus Eireann or NTA offices.

Councillor Charity says Bus Eireann and the NTA have an obligation to sit down with communities and try to find solutions that work.
