Galway Bay fm newsroom -There's been a step forward for plans to amalgamate the Boys and Girls National Schools in Athenry.
Galway East TD Sean Canney says it's now been confirmed by the Department of Education that the proposal is included in its Capital plans.
The project would involve the construction of a brand new school.
Deputy Canney says there's been huge investment in secondary education in Athenry in recent years.

He argues it's vital that the same investment is made in primary education to guarantee the future of education in the town.
