Statistics show cancer and heart disease still Galway's biggest killers

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over a third of deaths registered in Galway in a three month period last year were as a result of cancer.

New figures from the CSO show that between July and September last year, 353 deaths were registered across the city and county.

121 of these were listed as being due to cancer, while 141 were a result of heart disease and related issues.

Nationally, there were over 7,100 deaths registered across Ireland in the third quarter of last year - an increase of over 4% on the figure for 2015.
