State of the art STEM building for GMIT to go to tender early next year

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A state of the art STEM building for GMIT is to go to tender at the beginning of next year.

The project is part of a major national programme designed to provide for 8,000 additional students in 11 institutions across the country.

The new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths building will feature labs, lab support rooms, along with seminar rooms and classrooms.

The building will be 5,500 square metres, and will be located on the eastern side of the campus facing the Ballybane road.

Of the 11 new buildings featured in the Project Ireland 2040 plan, 6 builds in the East and South will go to tender immediately with the remaining 5, including GMIT, starting the tender process in Q1 2021.

The proposed infrastructure is designed to support practised based learning in laboratories, workshops and studios.

Minister of State and Galway West TD Hildegarde Naughton says the new facility will also attract new businesses to the west who are seeking a highly educated workforce – to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour…
