Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans to extend a proposed major solar farm in Claregalway have been rejected by county planners.
The project would have seen a vast array of solar panels installed at a 25 hectare site at Ballymoneen.
Last year, permission was granted for a major solar farm at a site at Ballymoneen and Grange East that would span 141 hectares.
The as-of-yet unbuilt solar farm, led by Renewable Energy System Ltd, would be operational for 35 years.
The developer has since applied for a 25 hectare extension, involving five fields within three land parcels.
However, county planners have refused a grant of permission.
They weren't satisfied that the proposed solar farm could be accessed and surface water disposed of adequately.
Planners found it would result in a substandard form of development and would endanger public safety due to traffic hazards.
