Sod turning for major Williamstown water infrastructure project

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The first sod will be turned next week (24/04) on a 10 million euro water infrastructure project which will see Williamstown connected to the Lough Mask supply.

Williamstown was placed on a boil water notice in October 2014 following the discovery of cryptosporidium.

The notice was not lifted for 18 months, after extensive works at the area's treatment plant.

Irish Water is currently preparing to put in place a long term solution to the issues in Williamstown.

Construction on the major networking project, which will connect Ballinlough, Co Mayo and Williamstown to the Lough Mask supply, is due to begin shortly.

Both the Ballinlough and Williamstown water supplies are on the Environmental Protection Agency's Remedial Action List, while the Ballinlough scheme has been on a boil water notice since January 2016.
